Warner Bros. willbe serving fans with a DC League of Super-Pets film. The 3D animated superhero comedy film will be starring Kevin Hart, which has made most fans more eager to watch the movie.
The film is written and directed by Jared Stern (The Lego Batman Movie) and co-directed by Sam Levine. DC League of Super-Pets is based on the DC Comics team initially introduced as the League of Super-Pets by Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan. The film will center on Superman’s dog, who teams up with a flying cat to stop crime while the Man of Steel is on vacation.
Kevin Hart will be voicing Ace the Bat-Hound, Batman’s dog. Ace appeared first in the Pre-Crisis continuity of Batman #92 as a German Shepherd. He was once regarded as a ridiculous character of the Silver Age Batman stories but has since gained fans’ love becoming a favorite.
Typically portrayed as Great Dane, Ace has been in numerous DC animated films over the years. Fans can’t wait to know whether the DC League of Super-Pets will opt for Great Dane or the Pre-Crisis German Shepherd breed.
Dwayne Johnson will be voicing Krypto the Superdog, Superman’s dog. In most comic sequels, Krypto is normally joined by the “Legion,” which initially consisted of Streaky the cat, Comet the horse, and Beppo the monkey.
Will any of these three appear in the movie alongside Krypto? While the company has not made it clear, the fact that the film centers on Superman’s dog makes it more likely to have Streaky on the animation film.
Superman’s dog Krypto made the first appearance in 1995’s Adventure Comics No. 210. He teamed up with other animals associated with the DC’s heroes, like, Ace the Bat-Hound and Topo, Aquaman’s pet octopus. It’s Johnson’s heavy year, as he will also be starring in the Black Adam film as the titular antihero, which is set to release in July 2022.
DC League of Super-Pets presents an A-list cast, including John Krasinski, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Keanu Reeves, Jameela Jamil, and Diego Luna who will be voicing the four-legged friends and enemies of some of the greatest DC’s heroes. The company has not yet revealed the roles that these stars will be taking.
Dwayne Johnson will also produce the animated film under his company Seven Bucks production with Patricia Hicks, Hiram Garcia, and Dany Garcia. Serving as the DC League of Super-Pets executive producers are Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, and Nicholas Stroller.
Warner Animation Group, DC Entertainment, and Seven Bucks Productions will be producing the film in the United States. Warner Bros. Pictures will then distribute the 3D animated movie next year.
The film has seen much preparation as John Stern was hired to write the DC Super-Pets film in 2018, and Sam Levine joined him later in 2019. In January 2019, the film was set to release in North America on May 21, 2021, but the company pushed it to next year.
We can’t wait to see how the incredible combo of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart alongside other stars will play out. According to Stern’s script, the film is set for a theatrical release on May 20, 2022.
