In the Heights thrilled fans and audiences in theatres and at home this summer. Now they’re looking at the following highly anticipated animated musical from the Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Disney has released the first Encanto trailer, the Colombia-set animated fantasy movie directed by Jared Bush of Zootopia fame and Byron Howard and co-directed by Chris Castro Smith. The fantastic, thrilling peek at the original tale features some of the great musicals penned by Miranda, who dazzled fans with her previous work with Disney on Moana. The upcoming American computer-animated musical fantasy comedy and thriller by Walt Disney Animation has been set in a fantasy version of Colombia. It is scheduled to be released theatrically in the U.S. on November 24th 2021.
The 60th animated feature in Disney Animated Canon tells the tale of a unique family, the Madrigals. They live hidden in the remote mountains of Colombia, in a vibrant town and magical house, in a magical and wondrous place called an Encanto. The magical nature of the residence, Encanto, has given every child in the family except one with unique superpowers from healing power to super strength. The height of the feature is when Madrigal, the powerless girl, realizes that the magical surrounding of Encanto is in danger. She is the only ordinary Madrigal who might be her family’s last hope.
In January 2020, it was rumored that Howard and Jared Bush, the Zootopia co-director, were working on an animated feature focusing on a Latino family. Late in June the same year, the film was reported to have the working title Encanto and was confirmed to be the project Howard and Miranda had been working on since 2016, with Miranda writing the songs for the feature. It was also reported that the feature would focus on a magical Brazilian family. However, on June 22nd, the same year, Miranda confirmed that the film would be set in Colombia and revealed that he started working on the songs and that Castro Smith will help co-direct the movie.
The film includes great stars such as Stephanie Beatriz, Diane Guerrero, Wilmer Vladerrama, Angie Capeda, Rhenzzy Feliz, Carolina Gaitan, Maria Cecilia Botero, Jessica Darrow, Adassa, and Mauro Castillo. The film revolves around the story of Mirabel, who’s the only member of her family without special abilities. She’s frustrated at first about this, but viewers expect her to find her gift later on when she least expects it as she stands out even more. The movie features eight original songs, both in English and Spanish, by long-time Disney legend Lin-Manuel Miranda. According to the new poster and first trailer, fans should expect to be dazzled by this film.
The humor, the drama, and the music are just on another level. The film is a celebration of the magical diversity of Colombia, and we can’t wait to watch it on the big screens.
