Aron Warner, the Oscar winner, will be thrilling fans with another animation film. The producer of Shrek and its sequels collaborated with Huevocartoon, the Mexican animation studio, to work on a new film – The Alebrijes. Sydney-based Odin’s Eye Animation will be launching the animation film at the Cannes Film Festival 2021.
In 2002, Aron Warner took home the Oscar’s Best Animated Film Award, thanks to Shrek. The Shrek producer also produced other incredible films like The book of Life, Antz, and Angry Birds 2: The Movie, among other films.
“Working with the Huevocartoon team has been an incredible experience. They have built a world-class CG animation studio and are attracting top talent from around the world. I have tremendous confidence in his ability to make a movie that not only looks great but is also full of heart and humor,” said the Shrek producer to THR about working with Huevocartoon on The Alebrijes.
The animation movie will be co-directed by the Ariel Award winners Rodolfo and Gabriel Riva Palacio from their screenplay Rio 2, co-scribed by Carlos Kotkin. The Alebrijes will be centered in Huevocartoon, which has seen through numerous local box office hits.
The Alebrijes tells the story of Pedro, an orphan who is accidentally entrusted with a legendary box that contains a historical race of creatures. Pedro, with his magical companion Puca and other orphanage kids, embark on a journey searching for their long-lost families. They have to fight against greedy Vasco, who asks the ancient creatures to execute his evil bidding.
The film draws its inspiration from Mexican folk art. The alebrijes are chimeric creatures that people have a connection to, and when called upon, they can come to their aid. Nevertheless, if an evil person has them, it takes a courageous group of unlikely friends to overcome the evil powers.
Like Shrek, the upcoming animated film is meant to connect with fans and enrich them. Additionally, The Alebrijes will have a flawless combination of humor, adventure, and traditions which we see in Shrek.
The battle of evil and good seen in Shrek and its sequels is portrayed in the upcoming animated movie. Also, driven by love, we see Pedro and his companions embarking on an adventure just like Shrek and Fiona. We can’t wait to see how this turns out and grab our popcorns to enjoy The Alebrijes.
Huevocartoon has also worked on great animated films such as A Movie About Eggs (2006). This film fetched the Silver Ariel award of the Best Feature Length Animated Film. Other titles include Another Movie About Eggs (2009), A Rooster with Many Eggs (2015), and Marcianos vs. Mexicanos (2018). The studio is also committed to promoting advertising campaigns and television projects.
The Cannes Film Festival 2021, which kicked off on Tuesday night, is taking place more than two years after the previous festival. Sydney-based outfit Odin’s Eye Animation continues to introduce The Alebrijes to buyers until the event wraps up on Saturday the 17th.
